Allion to Launch DisplayPort 1.4 Receiver Jitter Tolerance Test Service

DisplayPort 1.4

4K TV is mainstream now and 8K TV is no doubt the next big thing. For instance, the upcoming 2016 Rio Summer Olympics Games will be partially filmed in 8K. The visual experience promises to be immersive with high dynamic range and color gamut.

Since 8K displays require faster data transmission speeds and more precise signals, VESA recently launched DisplayPort 1.4, which clearly stipulates the design specifications for HBR3 (8.1 Gbps) signals. In comparison, the previous DisplayPort 1.2 specification only supported transmission speeds up to 5.4 Gbps. Due to the increased bandwidth, DisplayPort 1.4 can support high-resolution 8K video.

For display makers, jitter tolerance quality is a very important metric. If the design has any problems, it will cause signal errors and thereby impact image quality. For integrated circuit designers, jitter tolerance is also a big challenge.

VESA has also defined a Compliance Test Specification (CTS) for DisplayPort 1.4. To ensure high-quality end user experiences, Allion Labs, Inc. (Allion) has just recently launched HBR3 jitter tolerance testing. This testing can help product designers locate potential problems prior to product launch by focusing on the physical layer.

Allion has conducted DisplayPort testing for many years. We are also very familiar with Thunderbolt™ 3 and USB Type-C™ interfaces. If you want to know more about our test services, please contact

Allion Taiwan is the only Intel® WiDi Rx Certification Lab in Asia-Pacific.

Intel® Wireless Display (WiDi) technology is now in its 6th generation. As the WiDi standard developed, it faced fierce competition from other wireless display standards. In the end, Intel adopted the industry-standard Miracast specification to maximize product interoperability.

There are many devices that claim to support Miracast wireless display. However, display performance often does not match customer expectations due to poor product design or manufacture. As a leading IT company, Intel formulated the WiDi standard to improve this chaotic situation. By doing so, Intel aims to increase consumer satisfaction and thereby attract more people to its own brand of wireless display technology. To improve product quality, Intel has adopted strict certification standards. Only certified products can use the WiDi logo, so that consumers will be able to recognize and purchase high-quality products.

Intel has just recently assigned Allion Taiwan as its first WiDi Rx Certification Lab in the Asia-Pacific region. The Intel® WiDi certification process involves a series of validation tests to ensure excellent user experiences, reliable wireless connectivity, and seamless video streaming performance. Supported product categories include TVs and projectors with built-in WiDi receivers, plug-in adapters, and other Wi-Di devices. To achieve certification, vendors must submit their products to assigned certification labs for independent inspection.

Intel® WiDi certification is separated into two branches: WiDi for Home and Pro WiDi. The main difference between these two branches is that Pro WiDi certification includes extra test items like meeting management, IT policy support, etc. Pro WiDi products offer more reliable wireless display performance and advanced features that make them suitable for businesses.

The Allion WiDi Rx Certification Lab can customize test plans and environments based on your unique circumstances. Standard test items include general performance, wireless connectivity, image resolution, audio/video playback, audio interface, plug-and-play, etc. Besides standard testing, Allion can also conduct audiovisual quality testing (e.g. connectivity time, video delay, and audio/video sync) in simulated wireless transmission environments.

Acceptable WiDi testing environments are defined in the specification. For example, connectivity testing must be conduct in an anechoic chamber to exclude outside interference. The test environment must also offer 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz APs that support WiDi Rx device channels. Using multiple APs can simulate different levels of wireless interference and transmission traffic.

Besides WiDi certification, our test team can also simulate real-world usage scenarios to improve wireless products into the future. Allion also supports over thirty (30+) industry logo standards, so we can perform multiple logo certifications on your device simultaneously, to accelerate product release schedules and simplify project management.

Allion Japan becomes a UHDA Authorized Test Center

Since the introduction of Blu-ray technology over ten years ago, High-Definition (HD) digital video support has become widespread across multiple product categories, including home entertainment systems, computers, cameras, and mobile devices. However, just as HD video replaced standard video resolutions, it seems that it too will soon be made obsolete by UHD video.

Ultra-High-Definition (UHD) video offers display resolutions that are roughly equivalent to four HD video signals (i.e. 1080p x 4), which is why UHD is also known as 4K. Although UHD/4K compatible devices are already available in stores, prior history has shown that the market for these devices will expand in proportion to the quantity of UHD video content available to consumers. Although early adopters may have already taken the plunge and bought their 4K TVs, other consumers are still waiting for compelling content to drive their purchase decision. For product vendors, this means that the UHD video market is primed for rapid growth in 2016.

The UHD Alliance (UHDA), comprising more than 35 member companies, is a global coalition of leading film studios, consumer electronics manufacturers, content distributors and technology companies aligned to foster the creation of an ecosystem that fully realizes and promotes the next generation premium in-home entertainment platform. Key characteristics of a robust next generation experience should offer 4K resolution as well as a mix of other features that include high dynamic range, wide color gamut, high frame rate and immersive audio, among other features. UHDA Board members are executives from: The DIRECTV Group Inc, Dolby Laboratories, LG Electronics, Netflix, Panasonic Corporation, Samsung Electronics, Sony Corporation, Technicolor, The Walt Disney Studios, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. Entertainment. To learn more about the UHD Alliance, please visit:

As a new UHDA Authorized Test Center, Allion Japan can now provide product certification to ensure that devices comply with all UHDA specifications. UHD video is certainly a hot topic for consumers, vendors and content providers. As such, companies that manufacture related devices and equipment (e.g. cables, graphics cards, video © Allion Labs, Inc. All Rights Reserved players, and storage drives) are eager to make their mark in this new market. Due to increased competition, UHDA certification seems like a smart strategy for suppliers who wish to differentiate their products based on quality.

For many years, Allion has had an internal team dedicated to display testing services. The company also maintains close relationships with multiple industry associations to keep up with all the latest technical specifications and market research. Allion also provides its test engineers with all the latest test equipment and training, so that it can deliver the best quality services to clients. For more information about any of their test services, including UHDA certification, contact Allion at

Allion to Launch New USB Type-C Dongle Testing Program!

USB Type-C related products continue to increase in popularity as big-name brands such as Apple and Google drive the technology forward. This trend is increasingly reflected in actual sales figures, so that income opportunities are increasing exponentially. No doubt, the USB Type-C market is a hot sales prospect for cable & connector vendors, since many consumers will need to buy dongles to connect their peripherals to USB Type-C hosts. Due to this demand, the USB Type-C dongle and adapter market will definitely grow in the future. It is expected that in a few more years, USB Type-C will become dominant, but even if that happens more quickly than expected, consumers will still need to connect their legacy equipment to new USB Type-C devices. Since these older USB devices cannot be plugged directly into USB Type-C ports, nor USB Type-C connectors connected to legacy USB ports, USB Type-C dongles are required to enable both connection types.

Taking into account the increasing demand for USB Type-C dongle testing, Allion Labs, Inc. (Allion) is pleased to introduce its new USB Type-C Dongle Testing Program. Allion’s new test program is now available for USB dongle vendors who are in the process of (or planning to) release new dongle products to the global market. As an official USB Cable Assemblies and Connector Lab, Allion can assist your company with specification conformance, quality assurance, and additional advanced testing. This advanced testing includes electrical, mechanical, and environmental testing to ensure the best product quality and reliability. If you have any technical questions related to this new testing program or are interested in learning more about applying for our comprehensive test services, please contact us directly at
