On June 22, 2021, the USB-IF announced that all products which seek the USB Power Delivery Certification must test against the USB Power Delivery Compliance Test Specification Revision 1.2 Version 2 (USB PD CTS Rev 1.2 Ver. 2), also known as the PD Merged Test Specification.

The USB PD CTS Rev 1.2 Ver. 2 combines the USB PD 3.0 Tests document, PD 2.0 Communication Engine MOI, PD 2.0 Deterministic MOI, and other new checks.

A grace period of 6 months will be given to products which have passed the previous compliance test specifications but failed the new USB PD CTS Rev 1.2 Ver. 2. The waiver request must specify failures found using the new compliance specification document as well as provide a reasonable fix date.

The USB-IF also announced that they will no longer certify 100W USB Type-C® to USB Type-C® Cables on December 22, 2021. According to Table 3-1, Note 1 of the USB Type-C Cable and Connector Specification Release 2.1, the 100W USB Type-C to USB Type-C Cable Certification will be replaced by the 240W USB Type-C to USB Type-C Cable Certification.
