Allion Labs, Inc. has been authorized by the Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA) as one of the first test labs to offer Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 Release 2 certification tests, and testing is now open for booking. Allion is the only test lab in the world to offer all Wi-Fi certification services, providing the most complete test services for Wi-Fi.

The Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 Release 2 Certification is based upon the IEEE 802.11ax protocol and operates in the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz. This release improves upon the previous Release 1, bringing new features that support increasing device and traffic density to deliver greater performance and power management with Wi-Fi devices and applications.

The Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 Release 2 have incorporated these new features:

  1. Uplink Multi-User Multiple Input, Multiple Output (UL MU-MIMO)

Most use Wi-Fi for internet connectivity, carrying out various activities such as file transfers, video uploads, video chatting, or clouds services utilizing large amounts of data. Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 Release 2 adds support for uplink multi-user MIMO, increasing the efficiency in data transfers. As Release 1 only offers downlink data transfers, Release 2 is an improvement that improves network performance and reduces latency.

  1. Power management

Regarding power management vital to IoT devices, Release 2 includes the following methods to reduce power consumption:

  • Extended sleep time: allow multiple devices to receive extended sleep periods
  • Broadcast target wake time (TWT): allow for specific “wake up” times for transmitting data
  • Dynamic multi-user spatial multiplexing power save (SMPS): enable dynamic shut off of redundant receive chains to optimize power consumption in Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 Release 2 networks
  1. Extended range

Greater uplink capacity is achieved through ER SU PPDU, providing a longer and more stable range of connectivity.

  1. Security: WPA3Enhanced OpenPMF

The newest WPA3 Release 3 provides more security through safer encryption, higher-level SAE protocols to protect connections and data transfers, PMF functions that improve packet privacy protection, and Enhanced Open, which strengthens the security of open networks.

A product must pass the following tests to receive the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 Release 2 Certification:
