Allion Labs, Inc. in Taipei, Taiwan, a leading USB-IF Independent Test Lab (ITL) adopts the Teledyne LeCroy LabMaster 10 Zi-A with QPHY-USB4-TX-RX software to improve USB4® electrical compliance test throughput.

USB standards have greatly increased in speed and complexity, and the amount of required electrical compliance testing for USB has also increased. Electrical Transmitter (Tx) and Receiver (Rx) tests that took just a few hours in early generations of USB can now take days for USB4®. Therefore, test labs require faster compliance test throughput to meet their business requirements.

The LabMaster 10 Zi-A oscilloscope (when installed with SDAIII-CompleteLinQ and QPHY-USB4-TX-RX software) is designed to provide the fastest compliance test throughput for multi-lane standards such as USB4®. For Tx testing, both lanes are captured and analyzed simultaneously using the LabMaster’s high-performance Intel® Xeon® 20-Core processor. For Rx testing, multiple iterations of long waveform records are captured and analyzed as part of receiver calibration, with the Anritsu MP1900A functioning as the stressed signal generator. The Tx and Rx compliance tests are fully automated using Teledyne LeCroy’s QualiPHY automation framework – one push of a button provides complete USB4® compliance test results.

“Compliance test throughput is key to our business as a USB Authorized Test Lab”, said Brian Shih, Vice President of Certification and Hardware Validation Consulting at Allion, TWN. “Teledyne LeCroy’s reduction of test times for USB4® Tx and Rx using their QPHY-USB4-TX-RX test solution running on the LabMaster 10 Zi-A oscilloscope was a key factor in purchasing this equipment from Teledyne LeCroy”.

Allion has been working closely with USB Authorized Test Lab and contributed to the drafting of USB4® specifications. Allion is also authorized by USB Authorized Test Lab to deliver Full-Featured USB Type-C® Cable (USB4® Gen3), USB PD 3.0 E-Marker (USB) Certifications services, and all certification programs for different USB products including cable assemblies, connectors, hosts, devices and peripherals. Recently, the world’s first Full-Featured USB Type-C® Cable (USB4® Gen3) was certified at Allion.
