• This news release includes updates on the specifications announced by the USB-IF on September 19, 2020

Allion Labs, Inc. is the USB Authorized Test Lab to provide Full-Featured USB Type-C® Cable (USB4® Gen2, Gen3) and USB PD 3.0 E-Marker (USB4®) Certifications. Before vendors send their Full-Featured USB Type-C® Cable (USB4® Gen2, Gen3) or USB PD 3.0 E-Marker (USB4®) for certification, they should pay attention to the following points:

USB PD 3.0 E-Marker (USB®)

  1. USB PD 3.0 E-Markers (USB4®) are required to be tested based on the USB Type-C® functional test specification. USB PD 3.0 E-Markers (USB4®) must pass 4.13.5.

Full-Featured USB Type-C® (USB® Gen2, Gen3)

  1. The USB-IF will not certify USB Type-C® plugs specifically for USB4® speeds.
  2. USB 3.2-certified USB Type-C® plugs are required for full-featured USB USB Type-C®.
  3. Cable (USB4® Gen2, Gen3) certification. This indicates that vendors do not need to submit a waiver application to the USB-IF.
  4. The USB-IF will not allow uncertified connectors to be used on USB Type-C® cables that are capable of USB4®.
  5. Full-Featured USB Type-C® Cable (USB4® Gen2, Gen3) must use certified USB PD 3.0 E-Markers (USB4®) ICs. The USB-IF has already listed a number of USB4® capable E-markers on the Integrators List.
  6. USB PD 3.0 E-Marker (USB4®) must be tested based on the USB Type-C® functional test specification. USB PD 3.0 E-Marker (USB4®) used in the cables must pass 4.13.5.
