Allion VESA-Certified Test Fixtures

To do a good job, one must first sharpen one’s tools: Allion Develops Proprietary High-Frequency Test Fixtures for VESA Certification.

C to DP/mDP Cable Test Fixtures

Precision Alignment with VESA Specifications: Purpose-built for VESA USB-C to DisplayPort cable certification, delivering comprehensive coverage for test items spanning DP connectors to both Sink and Source interfaces.

AI-Driven Dual-Track Automated Control: An exclusive industry-first featuring dual-mode control paired with OLED/LED status indicators. Test engineers can easily operate the system via tactile hardware buttons or automated remote software APIs/apps—drastically slashing manual intervention time and maximizing testing throughput.

DP 1.4 AUX Channel Test Fixture

Ultra-High-Frequency Signal Integrity: Supports standard DisplayPort plug connectors, purpose-engineered for demanding PHY compliance tests including eye diagrams, termination DC electricals, and slew rates.

Innovative “No-Twisted-Pair” Architecture: Leverages a proprietary hardware topology to achieve virtually zero signal loss. This guarantees test data reflects 100% true silicon performance, effectively eliminating fixture-induced false fails and saving clients substantial, unnecessary rework overhead.

The Latest Version of DisplayPort™ 2.1 Video Standard

VESA already released version 2.1 of the DisplayPort™ (DP) audio-video standard, which supports 8K resolutions, higher refresh rates for 4K/HDR, and virtual reality applications. DP 2.1 provides up to a 3X increase in data bandwidth performance compared to the previous version of DisplayPort™ (DP 1.4a), as well as new capabilities to address the future performance requirements of traditional displays.

The advantages of DP 2.1 are enjoyed across both the native DP connector as well as the USB Type-C® (also called USB-C®) connector, which carries the DP audio-video signal through DisplayPort Alt Mode.

The increased video bandwidth performance of DP 2.1 carried over the USB-C® connector enables simultaneous higher-speed USB data transfer without compromising display performance. DP 2.1 leverages the USB4™ physical interface (PHY) layer while maintaining the flexibility of DP protocol in order to boost the data bandwidth and promote convergence across industry-leading IO standards.

Introduction of DisplayPort™ Alt Mode

DisplayPort™ Alt Mode 2.1 enables full support for all the latest DisplayPort™ capabilities over the USB Type-C® connector, including beyond-8K resolutions, higher refresh rates, and simultaneous USB data delivery. Offering seamless interoperability with the new USB4™ specification published by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), DisplayPort™ Alt Mode 2.1 delivers comprehensive support for all features within the latest DisplayPort™ 2.1 standard over the USB Type-C® (USB-C) interface.

Operating under DisplayPort™ Alt Mode, the USB-C connector can transmit up to 80 Gbps of DisplayPort™ video data across all four high-speed lanes within the cable, or support up to 40 Gbps for SuperSpeed USB data transfers.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: Is it mandatory to use a VESA-certified connector when applying for DisplayPort certification?

A1: No.

Under current VESA compliance guidelines, end-product certification (for either Source or Sink devices) does not strictly mandate the integration of pre-certified DisplayPort™ connectors. However, to guarantee high-frequency signal integrity (SI) and minimize the risk of compliance failure, we strongly recommend implementing VESA-compliant, high-performance connectors.

Q2: Does DisplayPort™ certification currently mandate Return Loss testing for both Source and Sink devices?

A2: Yes.

As long as the product supports UHBR (Ultra High Bit Rate) transmission speeds—including UHBR10, UHBR13.5, and UHBR20—Return Loss testing is mandatory for both DisplayPort™ Source and Sink devices. If the device only supports legacy data rates up to HBR3, Return Loss testing remains optional/non-mandatory for standard compliance.

Q3: Has MST Protocol CTS testing become mandatory for DisplayPort™ Source devices?

A3: It is not currently mandatory.

Under the prevailing DisplayPort™ compliance test specifications (CTS), MST Protocol compliance testing for Source devices has not yet been implemented as a mandatory test item. Currently, VESA only mandates MST Protocol testing for MST Hubs, docking stations, and related multi-stream branch devices.
